Renew,
Venices Wayfinding System (2022)
This project was a culminating final project that allowed designers to explore creative ways for tourists and travelers to experience Venice. My project focused on creative ways to explore Venice without the reliance of Google maps to make experiencing Venice an enjoyable and memorable time.
Many stories of tourists travelling or visiting Venice often mention the feeling or a moment when people realize they've become lost somewhere along the way. One of the main considerations, in my design approach, was to answer the following question: What if Venice was easier and fun to explore?
Process Work
During the process work of this project, the intended focus groups of my project were people that (1) required accessibility needs and (2) tourist visiting Venice for the first time. Part of the initial work that's required before even considering the design of the wayfinding system is understanding the needs of the focus groups through research analysis and scenarios.
From there, I continue the analysis by assessing the current wayfinding framework. This process is not part of determining whether the framework is worth keeping but rather a consideration of how to improve with the existing model with new creative approaches suited towards the needs of my focus groups.
As a final result, my project introduces the addition of a system design that utilizes common pathways in order to create a guiding line to common and popular tourists POI. This would allow tourists and travelers to freely explore, as they should, while having the ease of mind by having a reference point or path as a safety line to return to along the way.
